Temperature settings depend on the time of year and your personal preferences. In the summer, the average temperature setting is 72-76 degrees. In the winter 68-72 is the norm. Remember, when leaving your house; try to avoid drastic temperature changes. Do not set your temperature back more than 5 degrees, this will cause your unit to work harder to achieve the desired temperature setting.

You should have maintenance done on your heating and air conditioning system twice a year – spring to early summer being the best times for your air conditioner, and fall/early winter for your heat pump or gas furnace. This not only ensures maximum efficiency, it enables us to foresee any possible problems that may occur in the near future.

Is your house not cooling or heating in all areas? Is your unit making strange noises? Has it been taking longer to cool down or heat up? Have your utility bills been rising for no apparent reason? Any of these are signs that you may have a problem that needs service. In most cases, the longer you delay, the worse any underlying problems will get. Be sure to contact H2 Heat and Air to check out your system whenever you notice anything out of the ordinary.

On average, a furnace or air conditioner will last 10-15 years. Sometimes it pays to replace the old system sooner because of the higher efficiency (lower gas and electric bills) provided by newer

equipment. The major factors influencing life expectancy are proper installation and regular maintenance. Maintenance is important to maximize efficiency and protect your investment.

System efficiency is measured in SEER, which stands for Season Energy Efficiency Ratio. Similar to miles per gallon in a car, SEER is a measure of the overall efficiency of a complete heating and cooling system on a seasonal basis. The higher the SEER, the greater the system’s energy efficiency.

In the majority of homes, cleaning and inspection once every three years is adequate. The type of air filter you are using and the frequency of maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment can have a significant effect on the duration between cleanings. The purchase of a good quality air cleaner will protect your heating and air conditioning equipment, duct system and your home, while scheduled maintenance will extend the life of the equipment and increase its efficiency.
